  1. DAD Earthquake Relief Update 4/26/16 PM

Update from our board vet Jo, on the ground in Ecuador, late last night. They head out every day from the camp in Canoa to villages and help build huts and treat wounds for any who are injured:

“We are in safe hands and have the military camping just next to us. Doing a lot! Most of the town has been destroyed. Animals are ok, its building tents, handing out food and helping people out here. We’ve been taken in by a bigger group organized by friends we made in Canoa during the DAD campaign last year: Peter and Mayra. They housed the military and now run a full response team. They housed us and now we are running with them. The relief work is not going to end for another 2 weeks”

  2. DAD Earthquake Relief Update 4/25/16 PM

Update from our board vet Jo, on the ground in Ecuador, tonight:

“Our convoy arrived this weekend in Canoa, Ecuador. We are working hard here. Hectic but good. Dogs seem to be generally fed, so we’re focusing a lot on human medical efforts, building huts, cleaning wounds etc. But the internet and phone signals are not good. I won’t know the next time my phone will synchronize messages.”

Update from our board vet Jo, on the ground in Ecuador, this evening. He and Michelle’s convoy has finally departed. They are on their way to Canoa to save as many human and animal lives as they can! The trip will be dangerous, as they don’t have a police escort, but they have private security. Let’s all hope they have a safe journey! Save a life in Canoa:

  5. DAD Earthquake Relief Update 4/22/16 AM

Update from our board vet Jo, on the ground in Ecuador, this morning. Conditions are dangerous, and he and Michelle are very brave. Let’s all support him in this very hazardous time:

“Slowly stories are reaching us and it is bad, and convoys need police protection. Most of the people in the group only go in to drop of supplies and than leave within 2 days due to all the danger. However, my goal so far is to stay 2 weeks, with the human doctors. We are leaving Quito local time. During that time, there is no police escort, but for several reasons we had to go that time. They wanted to go without security, but I don’t, so I hired a security guy that will protect the 5 cars/trucks and will stay for 4 more days in our base camp, which is going be out of town at a friend’s place who has a well, so we can keep collecting water for the relief effort. Now on my way to collect individual items and personal survival stuff like mosquito spray, food, duct tape, lighter, etc”

Status from yesterday morning, from our board vet Jo who’s on the ground there:

“This is the group that does the human relief and transportation. They had arranged a 12000 galon tank with fresh water but the water company bailed out. But there is a well so we/ they are getting a pump and filter system. Esteban is donating 10 bags of dogfood. On my way to purchase more.”

  8. Help Save People and Animals in Ecuador’s Earthquake Zone!!

The beautiful coastal town of Canoa in Ecuador, where we had a high volume veterinary and educational campaign last year (pictured here from our campaign, before the quake), was completely destroyed by the earthquake (completely, as in zero buildings left standing). That is just one of the places in Ecuador that is devastated right now from the quake. Please consider donating to our immediate relief effort there. Our board member vet, Dr. Jochem Lastdrager, is flying to the mainland today, and we will be sending all sorts of supplies (food, medical supplies, volunteers) to set up camps and help save both humans and animals on the mainland.

We will be coordinating through past DAD campaign veterinarian Dr. Diego Barrera, who is the founder and in charge of Ecuador’s network of municipal no-kill shelters.

Thank you for helping us save lives in immediate danger. Save a life now.
